The Board fills a governance role for the municipal library system as outlined in The Public Libraries Act; and to ensure that library programs, services and facilities meet the needs of the citizens in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands.
To be on a public library board in Ontario you must be:
a Canadian citizen
a resident of the Municipality of Hastings Highlands
at least 18 years of age
not be employed by the Hastings Highlands Public Library or the Municipality of Hastings Highlands
not be convicted of an indictable offence
Consideration for the following qualities would be an asset:
Firm connections and affiliations with the community
Prepared to devote an average of three (3) to six (6) hours per month
Conviction that the Hastings Highlands Public Library is uniquely important to the life of the community
Ability to approach problems and people with an open mind
Ability and eagerness to deal with values, vision and the long-term mission of the library
Committed to fiscally responsible management
Possess initiative and courage to plan creatively and carry out plans effectively
The Hastings Highlands Public Library Board holds a minimum of seven (7) meetings per year. The Board term is concurrent with the Municipal council term of four years, which ends on November 14, 2022.
