Members of the Maynooth Community have celebrated Pride in August for 28 years, and this marks the second year that the Hastings Highlands Public Library has partnered with the LGBTQ community to offer special events for all to attend.
On Thursday, August 1st, members of the LGBTQ community read excerpts from the books that changed their lives and presented the library with an honorary rainbow flag in thanks for providing the space and support for this event. It was a lively evening with over 20 people in attendance.
If you were unable to make it to the fireplace reading, we will be co-hosting an additional Pride Celebration event on August 15th between 6pm and 8pm. Regular library services will not be offered during this time, however members of the community are welcome to come out and watch the documentary "Making Connections."
The library will also be providing an LGBTQ book display for the month of August. This display will have books about LGBTQ themes, with LGBTQ characters, or simply by LGBTQ authors. If you have any suggestions of books to add to our display, we would love to hear from you. Many thanks to our wonderful summer students, Dominique and Kassidy, for setting the display up for us in addition to creating the book list.
